Hi, when I first began our family tree, I found lots of connections also via http://www.genesreunited.com – from people researching the same part of our tree. The other big advantage is that people were so helpful when I first started and after putting messages onto the discussion boards, I got LOTS of new information.
With one person I could go no further with (my husband’s grandfather) – I added why I was stuck on his notes, and one lady actually saw this, did lots of research and found him on Ancestry in about four census records. From this I found his parents and grandparents and could carry on from that as well, so it opened up lots of information that the family never knew at all as all they knew was he’d been an orphan – which was true when he was about seven, but he had an older brother and younger sister.
If anyone is sitting on the fence about making a start, I would definitely say jump in, add yourself, you parents and grandparents and see who else you can find from these sites that have been listed on here. It’s a great and very rewarding hobby
Heather, Thanks so much for leaving your comment. You are right, you just never know when and where that little piece of the puzzle will come from. I agree with you completely, it is a very rewarding hobby to get involved in. I’ve had a small set-back in keeping up with this blog as I had to get a new laptop, so now that I have and getting files transferred to the new computer, I will be posting more information and adding as much as I can to help others out.
